THE INDEPENDENT FIELD GUIDE
Voodoo Fishin' Cooler Use and Upgrades
Edited
A Voodoo Fishin' run starts with a four-slot cooler. Use E to interact, G to put it down, and C while holding it to select an item; the documented controller selection input is Button North. Capacity upgrades come from Dock Quotas and require collecting the Cooler Upgrade pickup at the relevant Fish Monger.
Developer controls and quota updates through the September 1 pickup change; 1.0 release context, exact build not verified. Session capacity is not a permanent inventory expansion. Sources and scope.
Pick up, put down and select an item
E is the interaction key documented for the cooler. G drops it. To take something out, hold the cooler and press C to enter selection mode, then select the item. The July 16 update also added number-key quick selection with 1–0.
On a controller, Button North is the developer’s stated input for selection mode. Use the game’s own prompts for the remaining actions if your bindings differ; do not translate a generic controller position into an assumed Xbox or PlayStation button name.
Documented cooler inputs; rebound controls can differ.

Claim the upgrade where it appears
Runs begin with four slots. Quota progress can unlock six-, eight- and ten-slot coolers. Since September 1, reaching that reward is not the entire claiming step: pick up the Cooler Upgrade that spawns at the respective Fish Monger.
Check the current reward preview rather than using an old fixed tier order. The two Mongers have different reward paths. If the meter completed but your capacity did not change, check for the pickup at the Monger whose quota you filled. The quota guide explains the separate meters.

Respawning deliberately empties the cooler
Cooler Respawn empties the box and respawns it near your outhouse. Use it only when recovering the container matters more than keeping its current contents. It is not a safe return-to-dock button for a valuable haul.
The developer disabled Cooler Call Back while the player is already holding the cooler. If that option is unavailable in that state, it is a documented restriction rather than evidence that the capacity upgrade failed.
Do not select Cooler Respawn to save a full load: emptying the contents is part of the documented action.

What leaving or dying changes
Cooler upgrades are in-session only. Leaving the lobby resets the cooler, so a later run does not inherit a ten-slot box. This is separate from your Journal records and permanent unlocks.
The game warns that death costs your catch and equipped tackle. The 1.0 announcement also describes a new threat that can swallow the cooler with its fish, without naming that threat. Do not assume every unattended container is safe or that the reset option restores lost fish.
Cooler Sprint exists as a quota reward. An older blanket statement that carrying the cooler can never allow sprinting misses that later upgrade.
