THE INDEPENDENT FIELD GUIDE

Voodoo Fishin' Fish Journal and Catch Reference

Edited

Open the Voodoo Fishin' Journal with J after its tutorial, choose a species, and read the fish’s depth, bait preferences and habitat separately. Your reel selects depth; bait tags affect attraction; the location must fit the habitat clue. A match improves your targeting, but the developer does not promise a catch on the next cast.

Developer Journal guide from March 2026, with April–October updates applied where documented. This is a field and targeting reference, not a complete 1.0 fish-location database. Exact build and every icon’s current appearance are not independently verified. Sources and scope.

Open the Journal where you are

J is the documented shortcut for opening the Journal anywhere. If you are still in the tutorial, finish its Journal step first. The physical bookshelf is on the main dock beside the spawn and respawn outhouses; use E there.

Fish are organized by species. Select a fish to open its detail page. Keep that entry available while choosing tackle rather than trying to remember every icon during a return trip.

Read the fields by the question they answer

The developer’s Journal explanation separates personal records from catch conditions. A large record or a long fight bar is not an instruction about where to cast. The lore paragraph adds background; it is not a hidden set of mandatory catch steps.

The two early developer guides use different rarity ladders in their fish-detail and bait examples. Do not combine those lists into an invented universal tier table; read the actual selected fish and bait labels.

Turn the entry into a fishing plan

Match the reel to the entry’s water layer first. Top, Pelagic or Mid-Water, and Bottom describe different parts of the water column. A Top/Pelagic reel covers either layer; it does not guarantee that a Top fish becomes more likely.

Then match useful bait tags and an appropriate rarity. Normal higher-tier bait can still attract lower-tier fish. Enchanted bait is a separate case: the developer describes it as targeting the tier it is tuned for, with Voodoo-tier bait needed for Voodoo catches.

Start with an environment clue you can identify, such as Cattails when the entry lists it, and try more than one matching spot. The Rocky Bottom reference separates that habitat clue from a Bottom reel setting. The developer’s example deliberately leaves room for randomness. The August population update says each Dock contains at least one of every fish species somewhere in the world; it does not say that every matching patch contains your target.

A Bounty still needs its exact fish. Use the target-and-sale sequence to keep a good Journal match separate from a bonus actually applying at a seller.

Keep the release additions separate from older lists

The 1.0 announcement names Flattus Lopsidedus and Murkus Squintii as two added species groups, with 12 new fish between them. It does not list each variant’s bait tags or coordinates. An April community transcription therefore cannot establish a complete release catalogue.

Use the in-game entry for a particular variant’s current clues. This page explains how to read those fields; it does not turn the two announced group names into twelve invented catch records.
