Voodoo Fishin' Rocky Bottom and Habitat Identification

Edited

Rocky Bottom in Voodoo Fishin' is a habitat clue; Bottom on a reel is a water-layer setting. They answer different questions. Look for the rocky surroundings described by original players, then match the target’s separate depth and bait fields in the Journal. Visible rocks are a useful search cue, but do not by themselves prove that the exact landing spot has the game’s Rocky Bottom tag.

PC habitat interpretation from the developer’s Journal/tackle guides and attributed April player observations. A current-build map of Rocky Bottom boundaries and a native tag-checking procedure are unavailable. Landscape cues and third-party tag displays have different limits; no habitat test was performed by this site. Sources and scope.

Check habitat and water layer separately

Found In or habitat clues describe the environment. Water Depth describes the layer covered by a suitable reel: Top, Pelagic or Bottom. A fish can have a Rocky Bottom habitat clue while a recorded successful catch uses a different layer of the water column.

For example, the historical Voodoo Betta entry lists several habitat clues including Rocky Bottom, while f0xy’s successful example is at Top. This is why selecting a Bottom reel solely because a habitat contains the word bottom can misdirect a trip. The Voodoo target table keeps the fields separate.

Two different uses of bottom; neither substitutes for the other.

Use scenery as a search cue with attribution

An April original player describes Rocky Bottom as water surrounded by more rocks than land, with rocks that can be stood on. Treat that as a scouting cue. It is not a measured border, a depth reading, or proof that any visible rock activates the habitat tag.

Habitat clues can overlap. The developer’s Journal FAQ discusses combined environment tags; do not force a location into just one visual category when the fish entry names several relevant conditions.

An August announcement proposed an Enchanted Signpost to reveal exact habitat tags. That plan alone does not establish availability or a recipe. Check an actual release entry before planning a trip around obtaining one.

Compare the actual fish entry before another cast

Open the target’s Journal entry, check its listed habitat, then its water layer and useful bait tags. A failure to catch a target is not a direct habitat measurement: the reel, bait, population and randomness remain separate conditions.

If you already use HabitatInfo, its author documents a tag notification when the bobber lands and removal when you reel in. Reading that display is a different kind of check from guessing from scenery. It is third-party software, and its package version does not establish compatibility with game 1.0; see the author-documented mod limits.

No base-game command, exact habitat radius or coordinate grid is asserted here. A complete current tag test remains an explicit evidence need rather than a conclusion drawn from one attractive screenshot.
